Ocean Power Technologies to Harness Spanish Waves

Spain

A pilot project for the world's first commercial-scale wave-driven power station is to be built in the Bay of Biscay. Click here for original story.
Ocean Power Technologies is actually the name of the company which will carry the project out, in a deal with Spanish electricity utility Iberdrola. The pilot project will use ten "powerbuoys" generating a mere 1.5 megawatts, but the aim is to have a 100-megawatt wave farm in place by 2006, and it may well be in Spain. Iberdrola is currently involved in a full-scale trade war with other Spanish utilities, having declared its belief that Kyoto Protocol objectives are feasible.
